About this Event

In the upcoming months, on Thursday August 22nd and Monday October 21st Gay It Forward will be hosting two evenings of support for CUPS Calgary, which is a tremendously generous and inspiring organization in Calgary which serves countless community members through its various programs and services. Come join me, Liam, your Gay It Forward host for “Nurturing Parents Dinner.” I am looking for 3-4 volunteers per night to help me out.

Nurturing Parents dinner: Volunteer team of 3 – 5 people cook a nutritious meal from scratch in CUPS kitchen for parents attending CUPS programming to become educated on how to parent their children and create a nurturing home environment. Volunteers will serve the meal when cooked and join clients at the dinner tables creating valuable social interaction. Volunteers clean up after the meal.

Time required: August 22nd 4-8pm

October 21st 330-730pm

Address to meet up: 1001 10th Ave SW

**Due to the small group size, if you sign up, it’s extremely important you show up!**

How will this project make a difference/why is it important?

Volunteers are essential in the running of CUPS programs, in breaking down social barriers for their clients, for creating memorable experiences for One World children and in creating normal socialization with clients to reduce social stigmas. Volunteering reduces the workload on full-time staff and provides an opportunity for them to tackle and improve day to day work projects and processes they otherwise would not get time to do that benefit vulnerable Calgarians. It frees up kitchen staff to go and purchase groceries and restock the kitchen while meals are being prepared and cooked by volunteers. It assists teaching staff to provide more creativity in activities and helps spread awareness of the work CUPS does

* Volunteers to dress comfortably, tie long hair back and wear closed-toe shoes.

OPTIONAL: Because we are 60% privately funded we do need to increase the food and baked good supplies available in the kitchens for our Treat Thursdays, our Most Important Meal and our Nurturing Parents night so would welcome contributions should the volunteer groups like to make a food or financial donation to help us stock our kitchens.

Items include:

– Non-perishable, non-expired canned and packaged goods (pasta, rice, soup)

– Nutrigrain Bars & Granola bars

– Baking supplies (pre-made muffin mixes etc.)

– Sandwich supplies (deli meat, cheese slices) & Juice Boxes

– Toothbrushes & Toothpaste

-Hot cocoa mix & Tea bags, Coffee and coffee whitener
